Pancakes can get a bad rap when it comes to healthy eating but it doesn’t have to be that way! There are much more nutritious pancake mixes out there these days to choose from. That’s why I broke down some of the best and worst pancake mixes on the market. So you know what the best choices are for you and your family when it comes to pancake time. I also added my favorite homemade protein pancake recipe below. My husband, Chris actually come up with this recipe and it’s just so good!

Worst Pancake Mixes
Pearl Milling Company, previously Aunt Jemima (not great ingredients: bleach flour, Aluminum, Palm Oil, Corn Syrup Solids)
Hungry Jack Pancakes
Bisquick
Annie’s Pancake Mix (slightly better the others above but does contain sunflower oil)
Best Pancake Mixes
Kodiak Pancake Mix (decent one)
Simple Mills Cocoa Pancake Mix
Homemade Healthy Protein Pancakes
Chocolate Protein Pancakes
Ingredients
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 mashed banana
- 3 eggs
- 3 tbsp water add a little more as needed
- 1 tbsp cacao powder
- 1 scoop chocolate protein 32 g
- 1 tsp grass-fed butter or ghee
- 1/2 cup raspberries
Instructions

Add all ingredients except the butter and raspberries to a blender. Blend until smooth. Note: add more water if needed for consistency.

Heat a large pan with ½ tsp butter. Let the pan warm up before adding the batter.

Add the batter and cook for 3-5 minutes on each side.

Re-coat the pan with butter and continue to cook the rest of the pancake mixture.

Mash the raspberries and add a little to each pancake.
