A new study brought to light hundreds of thousands of tiny plastic nanoparticles found in water bottles. This is particularly alarming because it’s more plastic particles than we previously thought. “We estimate that the exposure to the micro-nano plastics from regular bottled water was at the level of 105 particles per liter, which is two to three orders of magnitude more than the previously reported results merely focusing on large microplastics” (Study)

This is alarming because we are ingesting plastic particles that are known to contain hormone disrupting chemicals (Study).

Overall takeaways from this study:

  • Avoid Plastic Water Bottles as Much as Possible (I try to use it only when I’m traveling)
  • If you do need to use plastic water bottles, try not to expose to heat, sunlight or severe temperature changes. This can cause more plastic to leach. Store in a cool dark area.

What to use instead of plastic water bottles:

  • Stainless Steel Water Bottle for adults like this Hydro Flask
  • Stainless Steel Water Bottle for kids (spill proof) like this one by Thermos
  • Buy glass water bottles in stores when you can
  • Invest in a water filter at home

Here are my top water filter recommendations:

Remember, it’s not about being perfect! It’s about making small changes that add up to big results for your health.
